An Earth Day Note....

by Craig ▫ Apr 22 ▫

Did you notice that there are a lot of cars in Charlottesville? Me too. Staring at the specter of $4 a gallon for gas, it is time to take a hard look at getting to work or the store on a bike. It’s no longer just a nice thing to do – it is becoming a financial and environmental necessity.

Start simple. Use a bike you have or borrow a bike. Doesn’t matter what kind. Ride to the store or work once. Put your stuff in a backpack.

Then try to make it once a week. If you need some help with equipment, we have quite a selection of commuter racks, bags, lights and fenders in stock.

It all adds up:

  • 100 calories can power a cyclist 3 miles
  • 100 calories can power a car 280 feet!
  • A short, 4 mile round trip by bike keeps 15 pounds of pollutants out of the air we breathe!
